Dublin Bus

Setting the scene

To support one of the country’s busiest transportation networks, Dublin Bus needed a more dynamic, accessible, customer-focused website that would drive operational efficiencies and also change with the organisation. Dublin Bus also needed a clear and complete way to communicate during severe weather and other emergencies when the website received upwards of 160,000 unique visitors a day.

What we did

The team at i3 got to work and over the last three years we have completely overhauled their web presence and content management infrastructure. We deployed EPiServer, a world class enterprise content management system to handle all online content management. The latest version of the website delivers major enhancements to usability and customer service, creating efficiencies through integration with one common repository of information. We also connected this repository to Adobe inDesign in order to feed all off-line timetable printing. A custom Route Planner was launched in late 2010, and a new iPhone app has just gone live, delivering geo-location specific information and full journey planning on the move.

The Result

The project won “IT Project of the Year” in the Public Sector ICT Excellence Awards, 2011. To date the custom Route Planner has been used to plan more than 1.3 million journeys. Analytics show that users are able to access information such as timetables, travel updates and the route planner quickly and effectively.
